Course Description:

This course provides the participants with the means to properly principles of operation and maintenance of refrigeration equipment and practical skills while dealing with maintenance and repair works.

Course Goal:

To enhance the participants’ knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to give them some practical exposure to helps maintain the refrigeration equipment in good operational conditions and cope with the emergency cases of breakdown

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course the participant will be able to:

1. Understand fundamentals of refrigeration :
2. Be familiar with basic refrigeration systems:
3. Understand compression Systems and Compressors:
4. Use refrigerant controls
5. Understand the motor types, capacitor-start, thermostats, starting relays, defrost controls, contactors, overloads, time delay, anti short timer, wiring diagram, star-delta connection
6. Understand leak detection, adding oil, using a gauge manifold, valve kit, system charming, system evacuation, motor/compressor problems
7. Be familiar with testing and troubleshooting procedures

Course Outline:

1. Fundamentals of refrigeration :
   • Heat flow, temperature, pressure, gases, basic refrigeration, refrigerant

2. Basic refrigeration systems:
   • Selecting & handling tools & materials, tubing, flares, soldering, swaging, gauges, evaporator system
3. Compression Systems and Compressors:
   • The system, compression cycle, suction line, filter/dryer, condenser, expansion valve hermetic & semi-hermetic units, type of compressors, valves
4. Refrigerant controls:
   • Controlling, refrigerant pressure & temperature, expansion valves, solenoid valves, oil separator, oil pressure, high & low pressure cut out, flexible connector
5. Electric circuits & controls :
   • The motor types, capacitor-start, thermostats, starting relays, defrost controls, contactors, overloads, time delay, anti short timer, wiring diagram, star-delta connection
6. Servicing and installing semi-hermetic compressors
   • leak detection, adding oil, using a gauge manifold, valve kit, system charming, system evacuation, motor/compressor problems
7. Testing & Troubleshooting:
   • Locating trouble, troubleshooting chart, repairs, service estimates, testing & start up.
