Course Description:

The participants in this course will answer one central question: How do employers obtain, develop, utilize, evaluate, maintain and retain an effective work force? The participant will examine the fundamental activities associated with industrial relations; namely, certification, negotiation, collective agreements, dispute resolution and pertinent provincial legislative requirements. He will also trace the impact of these activities on human resource management.

Course Goal:

To enhance the participants knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to understand how to achieve effective HR and Recruitment management.

By the end of this Course the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe the purpose of HRM and identify the objectives commonly set to achieve this purpose
  2. Summarize the activities associated with how employers obtain, develop, utilize, evaluate, maintain and retain the appropriate numbers and types of employees
  3. Determine the HR responsibilities.
  4. Describe job analysis and job descriptions
  5. Describe some of the major day-to-day activities associated with HRM.
  6. Examine the common provisions of a collective agreement and explain its impact on HRM
