Course Goal:
The TWO-day course is designed for any employee who may be required to sling and lift workplace equipment as part of their normal work activities and to maintain high safety
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Identify lifting equipment and accessories
- Recognize safe working loads and lifting capabilities and limitations
- Recognize safe working procedures
- Recognize the recommended crane signals.
Course Contents:
- An introduction to PUWER and LOLER Regulations, including the need for training and causes of accidents.
- Some important definitions (competent person, signaler ….etc.)
- Planning the lifts
- Machinery (Mobile and Tower Cranes)
- Lifting Gears
- Types of slings (wire rope, round and webbing and chain slings)
- Safety factor
- Sling marking
- Sling load capacity and sling angles
- D/d ratio
- Lifting accessories and handling attachments (clutches, shackles, eye bolts……tec.)
- Choice of sling
- Knots
- Center of gravity
- Slinging loads in a safe and efficient manner and protecting the load and sling
- Safe working practice
- Recognized method of signaling
- Written assessment
